This site is all the notes I have taken or observed concerning our Antebellum home, Temperance Manor, which was built sometime between 1830s & 1840’s. There is a very rich and fascinating history related to our house that begs more revealing.
Here is some back story to how our home came to be. What I know. A merchant and hatter named John Spangler had bought our lot and the one next to it in 1832. It did not mention any houses and together John paid $102.00 dollars for the two lots adjoining.
By 1856 when he sold it to Stephan Van Darin it had a brick house listed on it and the two lots together now sold for $1200.00.
This is the beginning of a nearly 200 year old tale. As we dig the grounds, take off the sheetrock, peek behind the mantel or search through our resources a lot of story unfolds.
And when I’m not unveiling house discoveries I am found to be designing digital scrapbooking supplies and homeschooling my children. My husband and I have been married 20 years this March and we have 4 living children and two baby boys born sleeping. Our oldest will be 18 in a couple of weeks and our youngest is 2. So life is quite the adventure!
